Today the Palestine Community Music Project, led by Palestinian musicians in partnership with Musicians Without Borders in Bethlehem, operates a number of arts-based community programs that reach thousands of children and adults per year.
Their rap songwriting workshop series, for example, have already taught almost 200 local youth how to channel their expressions in the form of a rap. The Rap Program leaders have taught in local schools, worked with centers for the disabled, and in local camps. The instructors show how Rap is a great medium for expressing reality creatively and poignantly, even drawing on a long tradition of Arabic poetry and Palestinian rhyme.
The PCM artivists also train the community in nonviolent activism and organizing through the arts and music. Utilizing many different instruments and techniques, they work in schools, hospitals, and other community centers to help create positive outlets.
